Hi there! I’m Heather Turner, the voice behind this book review blog. Here, you’ll find posts written by a passionate team of educators from Central New York—including Teachers, School Librarians, and other school-based professionals. We started this blog to spotlight the incredible books we’re reading and offer honest, thoughtful reviews from the perspective of educators who see firsthand how stories connect with young readers. Whether you’re looking for your next classroom read, something to share in the library, or just a great book recommendation, we hope you’ll find inspiration here!
Why I Started This Blog
To try to make an authentic experience for educators and collect the best books into one place. This concept began as an in person experience at local public libraries. As school librarians we wanted to collaborate with public librarians and so the Book Café was born. Due to the pandemic many things had to shift and this was among them. So we have retooled and rethought the idea of the Book Café into a two part professional development opportunity. Part one will be this blog which will be written by fellow bibliophiles. They will choose titles that speak to them from the plethora of books that have been released in the last two years. These books will range from Pre-K to 12th grade titles and everything inbetween. Part two will include getting together in person and virtually to share the books that were collected. So welcome to the blog for Book Café 2.0. This is a collaborative blog so you will see many authors contributing during the next four months. This group of educators will share their favorite books via blog posts.
